| Laos is a landlocked country
in Southeast Asia. Of the country's 237,000 square kilometers, about
70% of the country is mountainous. The highest peak, Phou Bia reaches
2,817 meters (9,242 feet). Other geographic features include the
Xieng Khouang and Bolavens Plateau and the Mekong River Valley which
forms part of the boundary with Thailand.
