Australia was home to more than 10,000 people with more than
50 different languages.
NATURAL WORLD
Adelaide is spread out on both sides of the Torrens River.
PARKS
In 1837 Colonel William Light laid out broad streets with city
parks. The Botanic Gardens, established in 1855, are located along
the Torrens River.
Adelade is famous for its spring flower displays in city gardens
from September to November.
CULTURE
The city has many restored Victorian and Edwardian buildings.

Botanic Garden is the most visited cultural attraction in South
Australia.
The Art
Gallery of South Australia offers a walk-through of Australian
history. The gallery is located on leafy North Terrace between the
South Australian Museum and the University of Adelaide and was established
in 1881, only forty-five years after the first European settlers
arrived.

The South Australian
Museum is home to the largest collection of Aboriginal artefacts
in the southern hemisphere.
SPORTS
Adelaide is the home of two Australian Football League teams: the
Adelaide Crows and Port Power. A local Australian rules football
league, the SANFL, is made up of nine teams from around Adelaide.
The city hosts the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series
in April 2007.
NEARBY
Kangaroo Island is located at the Gulf of Saint Vincent. Visitors
can walk among the seals at Seal Bay.
The Flinders
Ranges is the most extensive mountain range in the state.
WEATHER
Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate, where most of the rain falls
in the winter months. Of the Australian capital cities, Adelaide
is the driest.
