LEFTIES RULE
Australians drive on the left-hand side of the road. Drivers give
way (or yield) to all traffic crossing or approaching from the right.
Bus stops are on the left-hand side of the road.
TRANSPORTATION
Australia is a ginormous continent with travel times to match.
For example, the flight between Perth
and Sydney
takes five hours.

TRAIN
CountryLink
- Travelling long distances by train has been part of the Australian
way of life for almost 150 years. CountryLink continues that tradition
by carrying almost two million passengers every year to around 350
destinations in NSW, Queensland, the ACT and Victoria. CountryLink
is part of the government-owned Rail Corporation New South Wales
which also operates CityRail which provides the passenger rail service
covering the greater Sydney region.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVELER TIP - With a Backtracker
Rail Pass travelers can spend up to six months exploring some of
the great places between Melbourne and Sydney and then on to Brisbane
- or vice versa. This pass gives you unlimited economy class trips
in both directions during the specified time period.
Included in the purchase of a backtracker rail pass are four bonus
CityRail passes. First there's a DayTripper ticket so you can travel
all day on Sydney trains, buses and ferries. Next is a return bus/train
ticket to the famous Bondi Beach. And then there are two one-way
train tickets to Katoomba, heart of the scenic Blue Mountains. You
can choose between making a day trip or staying in the mountains
for longer.
