THREATS
Australia has more endangered species than any other country.
In fact, Australia has lost more than 16 mammal species since European
settlement which introduced a menagerie of feral pests. Many native
birds and mammals were devastated by introduced species, particularly
cats, dogs and foxes. Said one conservationist: "Foxes are
hunted in England because they are a pest, so what did the colonists
do but bring foxes to Australia so they could hunt them!"

KANGAROOS
Here is an oft-repeated story (which needs confirmation). When
explorers arrived in Australia
and asked one of the Aborigine natives the name of this creature,
he replied 'kangaroo.' Little did the explorers know, the word kangaroo
meant, 'I don't understand you.'
