Darwin is the territorial capital and most populous city of Australia's Northern Territory. The city is located on Australia's northern coast.

ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIA

Crafts are exceptional and are exhibited at a number of stores, including the Aboriginal Fine Arts Gallery.

NATURAL WORLD

The George Brown Darwin Botanic Garden was established 130 years ago to introduce and evaluate plants for food and flavour to a small developing community and has since become important in the recreational and scientific life of the city. The site extends inland from the sea to a plateau.

CULTURE

Darwin is a tropical town with a few historic buildings that have survived the cyclones which have devastated the city.

The city is known as the 'Gateway to Asia' and the population is multicultural.

SPORTS

Every two years since 1991 (excluding 2003 due to the SARS outbreak), Darwin has played host to the Arafura Games, a major regional sporting event.

TRANSPORTATION -- Darwin Airport (code: DRW) is five miles from downtown.

WEATHER - Darwin has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. April to September is the dry season. During the wet or monsoonal season (October -March), dirt roads are closed.

Nearby protected areas include Kakadu National Park and Litchfiedl Park. Kakadu is bounded by the north by the Van Diemen Gulf and to the east and west by the Wild Man and East Alligator rivers. Kakadu was featured in the first two Crocodile Dundee movies.
