The Northern Territory boasts nearly 100 national parks and reserves, including two of Australia's most famous parks -- Uluru and Kakadu.

GEOGRAPHY

The Northern Territory covers about one-sixth of the Australian continent with an area of 1.35 million square kilometers. Darwin is the capital. Other sizable settlements are Alice Springs in the desert and Katherine near the Top End.

YUENDUMU

Yuendumu is 300 kilometers northwest of Alice Springs and a stronghold of traditional Warlpiri culture. Yuendumu is on Aboriginal Lands Trust land, which means a permit is required if visitors wish to stay overnight or longer. Permits are not required if visitors stop in Yuendumu to buy fuel or to visit the art centre during the day. Warlukurlangu Artists' Aboriginal Corporation is a fully Aboriginal owned and governed art centre. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of all art works go directly back to the artists and their community projects.
