Montreal is located on an island at the confluence of the Saint
Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers.
HISTORY
Originally called Ville-Marie ('Mary's City'), Montréal
would take its current name by the end of the 17th century from
the French Mont Royal ('Mount Royal'), the name of the three-head
hill at the heart of the city.
