Aguascalientes City

HISTORY

Founded in 1575, Aguascalientes was an important stop on the crossroads to the silver mines of Zacatecas, from which it broke away in 1835.

According to the legend, Don Antonio López de Santa Ana, the president at the time, fell in love with Doña Luisa, the beautiful wife of a local politician, and granted Aguascalientes' statehood in exchange for a kiss.
