including water sports and whale-watching.
The various beaches in Loreto known for their white
sand and deep blue waters, include Nopoló, Puerto Escondido
and Juncalito.
The city's small marina offers boat trips to islands
off the coast. One of the most popular islands is the Isla del Carmen,
which lies just opposite Loreto. Other nearby islands include Coronados,
Danzante, Montserrat and Santa Catalina.
FOOD
The city's cuisine is a combination of borderland
cooking and missionary recipes that feature fish dishes. Local specialties
include ceviche, lobster, seafood dishes and fish tacos as well
as fajitas and steaks.
HISORY
Loreto was the first Spanish town on the Baja California
Peninsula. It served as the capital of Las Californias from 1697
to 1777.
