HISTORY
The Condesa neighborhood was created in the 1920s. As this was
once part of the estate of the Countess Miravalle, the neighborhood
is named 'La Condesa.'
Condesa usually refers to three neighborhoods (colonias): Condesa,
Hipodromo and Hipodromo Condesa.
ART DECO
The story of La Condesa's good fortune can be read in its Art Deco
and Modernist architecture. Most of the development of Condesa took
place in the 1920s and 30s.
CITY PARKS
In the era of Porfirio
Díaz, this was the site of a racetrack or hipodromo.
Now the track is the circular Avenida Amsterdam and within it is
another circular street, Avenida Mexico. At the center is Parque
México. A few blocks away is Parque España.
MARKETS
The Tuesday market takes place on Calle Pachuca between Veracruz
and Juan de la Barrera. The Friday market is at the corner of Nuevo
León and Campeche.
