NATURAL WORLD

The 13,142 hectares (32,473 acres) park was created in December 1993 and is National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (CONANP). The region includes tropical deciduous forest and mid level evergreen forests, the mangrove, the arid tropical scrub, the palm cluster, the reed, the manzanillera forest and small vegetation.

The name of the reserve is taken from the small former port town of Chamela and the Cuixmala River which crosses the region. Highway 200 crosses the territory. East of the highway is the Chamela region. West is the Cuixmala region.

Rainy season is from July to November and the low tropical deciduous forest forest grows thick with foliage, only to lose the foliage during the November-June dry season.

The lower hills and coast share characteristics of Manantlan.
