HISTORY
The name, Tapalpa, comes from the náhuatl word 'Tlapalpan'
which means 'the land of colors.' Indigenous residents used
minerals to dye their cloth.
NATURAL WORLD
Pine and oak forests, waterfalls and giant rock formations
surround the town. The cool, clean air is a treat.
CULTURAL WORLD
Winding cobblestone streets, whitewashed adobe houses and
pitched red tile roofs make the city a visual treat and a wonderful
place to walk.
Historic attractions include the La Conquista paper factory,
the Parish of San Antonio de Tapalpa, the temples of Juanacatlan
and Our Lady of Mercy.
NEARBY
Ten kilometers west of town, in a village called 'La Barranca
De Refugio, is the Salto de Nogal waterfall which plunges 105
meters. North are outcroppings of volanic rocks, Las Piedrotas
and Los Frailes.
Just west of Tapalpa is El Nogal dam and the Salto del Nogal
waterfalla. North is Las Piedrotas and Los Frailes.
