Local environmentalists
have formed a group to protect Fortin Hill in Oaxaca
City.
Long a favorite with hikers and joggers, the area
is great for bird watching in the early morning hours. There
are also smooth ramps for wheelchair access.
Home to the Guelaguetza
Auditorium, as well as the city's observatory and planetarium,
the hill overlooks the city and offer a great view of the archaeological
site Monte
Albán.
Long a favorite with hikers and joggers, the area
is great for bird watching in the early morning hours. There
are also ramps for wheelchair access, but the inclines tend
to be steep.
BEFRIENDING THE HILL
Environmentalists have formed the Amigos del Cerro
Fortin (Friends of Cerro Fortin).
This group sponsors events throughout the year,
including marathons in the city. Notably, members plant trees
just before the rainy months in the summer and take care of
the seedlings (an adopt-a-tree programs) the rest of the year.
JUAREZ
Look for the monument to Benito
Juárez.
