ABOUT THE MIXTEC
In the Náhuatl
language of the Aztecs,
the term Mixtec comes from the word Mixtecapan, or 'place of the
cloud-people.' The area in which Mixtec is spoken is known as the
Mixteca.
TEPOSCOLULA
One of the great works of Spanish colonial architecture is the
monastery of Teposcolula.

YUCUNDAA
Excavations are currently taking place in Yucundaa, on a hill near
the town of San Pedro y Pablo Teposcolula, Once the center of a
Mixtec city state, the archaeological site (currently off limits
to tourism) might extend 600 hectares. The city was abandoned around
1530.
TLAXIACO
The city is formally known as Heroica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco ('heroic
city') in honour of a battle waged there during the 1862–67
French invasion.
Notable Tlaxiaqueños include the singer Lila Downs.

and Transportadora Turistica Mixteca Baja, Hidalgo #208. There is
another sitio on Diaz Ordaz. The Tlaxiaco office of Autotransported
is located Independencia #19 at the corner of Colón and Transportadora
is at Independencia and Hidalgo.
