The fishing town of Puerto Angel is famous for its beautiful beaches. It's also a cozy setting for nature hikes, snorkeling and swimming. Surrounded by rocky hills and sandy beaches, the main tourist avenue -- Playa Principal (also known as Playa del Muelle) -- is where you will find fishermen who take travelers out on the sea.

BEACHES

The most famous beach is Zipolite, one of the few nudist beaches in the country. It can be fairly crowded. Due to the strong surf, extreme caution should be taken while swimming. Adjacent to Zipolite is Playa del Amor.

Ixtacahuite Beach has a reef located just offshore. La Boquilla Beach is recommended for those wishing to snorkel as the waters here are more shallow.

NEARBY

Nearby is the La Ventanilla and Mazunte.

VISITING?

LOCATION -- Puerto Angel is located 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of Oaxaca City. Nearby excursions include the towns of Puerto Escondido and Mazunte.

Travel!

TRANSPORTATION -- In Oaxaca City van service is available from Servicio Express, Arista #116.

If you are heading to other places along the coast, transit usually goes by way of Pochutla.

LODGING -- Puerto Angel offers a variety of lodging -- from bungalows and trailer parks to luxurious suites. For specific suggestions, buy a guidebook or consult the list of accomodations on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
