| This Pacific town is known
for its stellar Easter
celebration. Pinotepa comes from the Aztec words pinolli (crumbling)
and tepetl (mountain). During the colonial era, this town was known
as Pinotepa Real (Royal). After independence, the name was changed
to reflect national pride. To the Mixtec, Pinotepa has always been
called Ñíí Yu-uku, meaning place of salt.
About 15 miles (24 kilometers) away is the village of Pinotepa
Don Luis. Festival of San Sebastián is celebrated in late
January.
