| The Pochote Cultural Center, Garcia
Vigil #817, was created with the support of Oaxacan artist Francisco
Toledo. The center is part of the famous Arquitos.
TREES
There are seven pochote trees in this market that gives the
cultural center its name. Kapok
or ceibas are another name for the tree. The trunk and many
of the larger branches are crowded with large thorns. Curious
tidbit -- a light, water resistant fiber is harvested from the
seedpods. (Photos)
Spot the rosita blanca de cacao (used for tejate),
pirul (false pepper tree) and the beautiful jacaranda which
blooms in February and March.
