There has been a boom in the construction of cabins in the Sierra Juárez and Central Valleys, followed by development along the Pacific Coast. Most of these facilities are managed by SECTUR, the state tourism office, Murguia #206 in Oaxaca City.


RURAL COMMUNITY LODGING INDEX

Santa Ana del Valle is a well-managed lodge with attentive service. The landscape boasts a number of gardens. Nicely located on the edge of the village, this is a pleasant place to stay. It has an additional cabin and can accomodate up to 11 people. The town has a rich tradition of rug weaving, well-documented in the community museum in town. Bus service is available through Cempoaltepetl, 562-0419. Details

San Antonio Cuajimoloyas is located in the Sierra Norte and within hiking distance of Benito Juárez. The town hosts an annual edible Mushroom Fair. This is a beautiful place to visit. Details

Benito Juárez is a community in the Sierra Juárez. The town has a small botanical garden as well as a health clinic with examples of curative plants. A 30-minute walk takes you to El Mirador, which offers a view of the Central Valleys and a glimpse of the nearby towering giant, Pico de Orizaba. .Details

Llano Grande opened its facility in December 2002.

Santiago Apoala is located in a beautiful canyon in the Mixteca Region. The cozy facility has a restaurant.

FYI - Community lodges (Tourist Yu'u) located in Teotitlán del Valle and Tlacolula de Matamoros are no longer in operation.
