FORUM ON LATIN AMERICAN FORESTS

The Forum on Latin American Forests (FOLAF) publishes original features, highlights research and develops cross-border networking and information sharing. FOLAF has two key objectives:

1) Improve awareness of forestry issues by publishing original materials and by updating resource guides with links to recommended resources elsewhere on the Web.

2) Improve awareness of the synergies between forestry and tourism. Ecotourism is a 'non-timber product' that can be a complementary asset to forestry.

UPCOMING EVENT

YOUR TURN - Share your photos of trees in Oaxaca the first week of April 2008. The innovative Oaxaca Flickrmeet takes place April 1-5 in Oaxaca City and nearby villages in the Central Valleys and Sierra Juárez. Photos are welcome in the following groups:

HISTORY

FIRST STAGE -- We received initial financial support from the Department of Environmental Studies at Florida International University and the Ford Foundation in 2003 to expand our Forest Resource Guide and highlight forestry in Mexico. Publications include Forests of Mexico and Who's Who in Mexican Forestry.

To update these resources, we have established a forestry branch and a Flickr pool.

SECOND STAGE -- As FOLAF matures, we would also like to host roundtable discussions and provide training for those working to connect forest conservation and tourism.
