Planeta.com welcomes articles about conservation, travel and
ecotourism around the globe. We publish original work (typically
500-1,000 words) typically written in knowledgeable first person.
We ask that first-time writers tell us how they came upon this
site and we ask all to consider editing suggestions. If an article
is not right for us, we might be able to recommend other places
to publish.
Authors receive a bio including email and web link so that
readers can make direct contact. This is part of our vision
encouraging decentralized
communication. It's all about engagement, which is why we
recommend that you give a think to subscribing to the Planeta
Update via email or RSS feed. Writers are also invited to
join our Planeta
Forum.
TIP -- If you have written something that is already
online, let us know via our Forum.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICS
Just two technical requests. No attachments, please! Copy and
paste articles into the body of a simple email.
If you are copying and pasting from a word processing program,
use plain text and convert curly quotes (smart quotes) to straight
quotes.
GLOBALIZE YOURSELF
Write for the global reader. If something might be confusing,
please explain it. Simplify ideas as if you were talking to
a new friend who does not share your cultural background.
If we publish your work, please make sure that your article
is up-to-date with a current bio and contact info.
Dead links are the bane of the Web. So if you come across any
on our site, please report
dead links. Provide specific information -- the address
(URL) of the page with the dead link, the name and URL of the
dead link itself and (if possible) the new URL.
LINKING
We are happy to feature outside links on our headlines page
as well as relevant features. Remember the reciprocity rules!
PLACE
We share credit on place-based
guides. The standard format includes an overview of the natural
world, geography, cultural attractions and 'how to' information
including transportation tips.
TIMING
Be patient! Every serious inquiry receives a reply. If you
don't hear from us in a week, please resend your query. We are
happy to work with students enrolled in our seminars.
