SLIDESHOW

We publish original work (typically 500-1,000 words). Authors receive a bio including email and web link so that readers can make direct contact. This is part of our vision encouraging decentralized communication.

ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE PUBLICATION

Online publication offers a number of advantages.

1) Articles can be accessed around the globe in a timely fashion. Features on this site are frequently Googled and Newsgoogled
2) Articles include author contact information.
3) Articles can be updated.

REQUEST

Please accept editing suggestions. If it an article is not right for us, we can recommend other places to publish.

First-time writers are asked to explain how they came across Planeta.com.

We encourage contributors to register for Planeta Update and to participate in our Forum.

GLOBAL READERS

Write for the global reader. Don't assume that your work will be read only by those in your own country. If something might be confusing, explain it. Simplify ideas as if you were talking to a new friend who does not share your cultural background.

If we publish your work, please make sure that your article is up-to-date with a current bio and contact info.

Dead links are the bane of the Web. So if you come across any on our site, please report dead links. Provide specific information -- the address (URL) of the page with the dead link, the name and URL of the dead link itself and (if possible) the new URL.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICS

No attachments, please! Copy and paste articles into the body of a simple email.

If you are copying and pasting from a word processing program, use plain text and convert curly quotes (smart quotes) to straight quotes.

When giving a URL, include the 'http://' -- often removed in print publication for reasons of saving space -- but sometimes necessary for online referrals.

LINKING

We are happy to feature outside links on our headlines page as well as relevant features. Preferential treatment is given to those who link back to us. Reciprocity rules!

TOPICS

Among the topics of interest: Artesania and Crafts - Biodiversity - Birding - Biking - Ecology - Environmental technology - Forest conservation and tourism - Greening events - History of conservation - History of tourism - Markets - Mountains - Recycling - Rural tourism - Sustainable development - Urban ecotourism

PHOTOS

Please do not send unsolicited photos. That said, if you have good pictures, let us know. We use a Flickr gallery. This is a great application that we've others have found useful as well.

Example - here's the photo used to compliment the feature Ecotourism in Jamaica.

PLACE

We share credit on place-based guides. The standard format includes an overview of the natural world, geography, cultural attractions and 'how to' information including transportation tips.

TIMING

Please contact us when you are prepared to submit an article.

Be patient! Every serious inquiry receives a reply. If you don't hear from us in a week, please resend your query. We are happy to work with students enrolled in our seminars.
