| The Chocó Bioregion
is a biodiversity hotspot. The Chocó Bioregion is a narrow
zone of wet forest, squeezed between the Andes mountains and
the Pacific coast of northwestern Ecuador
and Colombia.
THREATS
Chocó is also threatened by urban encroachment
and unsustainable development. Of the original 80,000 square
kilometers of forest in Ecuador, only 6 percent remains.
WORLD TRAVEL
The Colibris
are a group of women living in the village of Marianitas. The
Colibris produce sustainable arts and crafts from renewable
natural materials like bamboo, coconut husks and tagua (vegetable
ivory). The mission of the women is to provide a sustainable
future for themselves, their families and their community, while
protecting the incredibly rich diversity of their natural resources.
