Lima is the capital and largest city in Peru, as well as the capital of Lima Province. It is the cultural, industrial, financial, and transport hub of the country.

TOURISM

Capital of Peru, Lima is home to roughly one third of the country's population.

GEOGRAPHY

Lima is located in the center of Peru's desert coast line.

HISTORY

Lima was founded in 1535 and became the continent's richest city during the colonial period.

DOWNTOWN

Downtown Lima is built in a checkerboard fashion surrounding the Plaza de Armas.

CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS

Cultural attractions include the Museo de la Nación, Museo de Oro del Peru and Museo Amano.

Miraflores is the suburb visited most by travelers. There are many beaches.

NATURAL WORLD

Swimming and surfing are popular during the summer months (January-March). The water is polluted.

FESTIVALS

Major processions are held on August 30, the feast day of Saint Rose, patron saint of Lima and the Americas.
