Reflections
from the World Bank
Two Excerpts from World Bank's Thinking Outside the Box, Changing
the Box Conference
"Thinking 'outside the box' should including closer examinations
of how we view communities and community participation. One commenter
observed that the notion of 'communities' can be largely fictitious
and argued that conservationists should pay more attention to the
factional and competing interests within communities."
Experiences
with Linking Participatory Conservation - Elisabeth Nkrumah and
Nancy K. Diamond (PDF File)
"Because the ultimate success of participatory conservation often
requires a very long-term approach, the World Bank and other donors
should be re-examining the length of their project cycle, especially
when project success is dependent upon changes in community behavior
and attitudes."
