- I have been publishing "EcoFlorida Magazine: Your Guide to Exploring
Natural Florida" for four years. I researched the idea for the
magazine for a year before the premier issue. I have spoken with
and learned from various people, from guides to government biologists
to community activists and, of course, our readers -- consumers
of nature travel -- and advertisers -- guides, tourism councils
and lodging owners.

- I have been working on two projects in Guatemala for two years.
One where I have analyzed an ecotour and a plan for an ecolodge,
for a private business, and the other with an NGO in Guatemala,
developing a community tourism project based on fair trade tourism.
This subject is of interest to me in the sense that marketing
is part of my projects. Furthermore, I have written a document
during my master's degree in Tourism Planning and Management
about the Ruta Maya, comparing the commercial one with the lesser
known cultural one.

operators and businesses, most of them small scale and in rural
areas -- marketing and image building is vital to their sustainability.
In my experience more than 70% of visitors to rural tourist

-- in other words visitors at the destination are great vehicles
for marketing inasmuch as they will play a major role in influencing
others to come or not!
