HEADLINES

Latin America is Far From Rejecting Democracy - Carol Graham/London Financial Times
Some in the media, examining the so-called "crisis of democracy in Latin America, have concentrated on isolated incidents. Yet the main trigger for this wave of doomsaying was a report in May by the United Nations Development Programme on the state of democracy in Latin America.

Conversation with Walter Salles - The Guardian
Introducing The Motorcycle Diaries at the National Film Theatre last week, Brazilian director Walter Salles discussed Latin American identity, Argentinian cinema, and the character of Che Guevara.

Yucatan Photo Journal - Adventure Guides
We are deeply saddened to announce the death of a talented artist, influential author, and a big fan of Mexico, Joyce Kelly, last 30 August. Joyce lived with her husband Tom, in New Orleans, where she taught art for many years. We got to know her through her books, especially the "Archeological Guide to Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula.

JOB FILE

TRANSITIONS ABROAD -- The Transitions Abroad web site is seeking articles on experiences working, living, studying and traveling abroad in accordance with the writer's guidelines

CORRECTIONS

Last month the New York Times published the following correction: "In article on Aug. 1 about hiking up Mount Roraima, in southeastern Venezuela, omitted attribution for some historical references to 19th-century exploration. They relied on descriptions at <http://www.thelostworld.org>, a Web site devoted to natural attractions in Venezuela's southeast."

Kudos to LAMP member Dominic Hamilton for getting credit due!
