ABOUT LAMP
Planeta.com created LAMP
in October 2003 to spotlight quality coverage focusing on Latin
America among a diverse group of independent websites.
The LAMP
branch on the Planeta Forum has generated more than 100,000
views, making this the most visited section on the forum. LAMP
members post announcements and tables of contents from a variety
of journals and websites, including BrazilMax, EcoAméricas,
Mexicanwave and Mexico Connect.
Many of these stories are harvested and included on Planeta.com's
Headlines.
LAMP encourages members and supporters to work toward expanding
the paying market for news that makes us better aware of the
changes occurring in the region. "Improving the quality,
accuracy and visibility of regional reporting is our goal,"
says LAMP founder Ron Mader, adding "It is curious that
in an age of expanding media outlets, Latin America remains
poorly covered in the English language press."
In the past ten years wire bureaus in Latin America have been
cutting back offices as international news divisions divert
reporters and editors to other parts of the world where the
news is more scandalous. Cutbacks have forced many wire service
reporters to reduce first-hand investigations and rely on telephone
interviews instead.
To help identify reporters and photographers in the field and
editors outside the region, LAMP is launching the new directory.
