| Oxford,
England - Art in
Action is a feast for the soul and the senses
that takes place July 16-19, 2009.
As one of the longest running art and craft festivals in the
United Kingdom, it brings together hundreds of artists in a
vast array of artistic disciplines offering beauty, inspiration
and creativity.
Art in Action was created out of a simple observation: people
are fascinated when artists and craftsmen openly demonstrate
their skills and discuss their work. Bernard Saunders, then
guardian of Waterperry Gardens, decided to organise an event
based on this principle. Artists and craftspeople would work
as if in their own studios, with the public as audience.
Artists set up their studios and work in marquess set in the
beautiful grounds of Waterperry House, offering visitors a rare
opportunity to observe the creative process first hand and to
speak to the artists.
In 2009 the event features artists from Oaxaca,
Mexico, including Adriana Amaya, Arturo Sosa Pérez,
Boris
Spider, Francisco Pérez, Juan Alcazar, Miriam Ladrón
de Guevara and Moises Martinez.
Says Art in Action catalyst Hilary Simon: "On returning
from Oaxaca in October 2007, I contacted Art in Action with
the idea of a Marquee of Mexican Artists.I was enthusiastic
that the work I had seen was different to anything seen in the
UK and that it would make a wonderful display of arts and crafts
with demonstrators."
The idea was accepted and gained support of the Mexico Tourism
Board.
