In 2009 Planeta.com is making a major revision to the award-winning Mexico coverage.

"We are adding a number of links to Web 2.0 channels on the city and state guides," said Planeta.com director Ron Mader. "In addition we are assisting local tour operators, language schools, indigenous artesanos and government officials."

Mader pointed to the series of Internet Workshops for market venders and artisans in Oaxaca City as an example of how Web 2.0 training can be developed.

Additions to the Mexico features on Planeta.com include links to YouTube videos, Flickr photo galleries and recommended Facebook groups and Twitter accounts.

"As a 15-year-old website, we have a foot solidly in the realm of Web 1.0 and we're testing the waters of Web 2.0, which in our estimation is the best way to connect locals and visitors online," Mader added.

This year Mexico hosts the World Environment Day (June 5) as a way of celebrating environmental awareness around the world.

Updates on Planeta.com include features on parks and protected areas, local sports, traditional markets and options for eco travelers. Highlights include indigenous tourism options throughout the country.

COLIBRI ECOTOURISM AWARD

As part of the global celebration of World Environment Day, Planeta.com presents the 2009 Colibri Ecotourism Award to a leader working toward responsible travel and ecotourism in Mexico.
