| Planeta.com is announcing a major
revision to the popular online guide to Cancún.
One of the goals this year is a complete revision of the Yucatán
Guide, one of the most popular sections on the site. "We
are launching the Cancún Wiki to provide real-time coverage
of the events. This will help us greatly as we relaunch our
Cancún
City Guide as well as the essay on the history
of Cancún," said Planeta.com founder Ron Mader.
Exploring responsible tourism in Cancún will be the
focal point of a city tour scheduled for October 17 organized
by Ecocolors.
Participants are encouraged to reserve a room at the Hotel
Rey del Caribe.
"In October we are participating in the Responsible
Tourism Conference that takes place in neighboring Belize. As
the travel hub of the region, Cancún is of particular
interest as we review how mass tourism can be more hospitable
for everyone," said Mader.
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
The Maya people live in Mexico
and Central America.
To help travelers better understand the region and its people,
Planeta.com is hosting the Maya
Wiki with updates, RSS feeds and links to relevant Web 2.0
sites. Maya-owned tourism operations are encouraged to apply
for the Indigenous
Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award.
ECO URBAN
Planeta.com reviews ways in which urban tourism can be more
ecological and brainstorm about alternatives to urban sprawl.
As proposed in our review of City Environments, we encourage cities to show us how they serve
as gateways to parks, protected areas and rural communities.
The spotlight on Cancún is similar to issues faced in
other megatourism destinations, including Queenstown,
New Zealand and Las
Vegas, Nevada.
