| As the world comes together
to celebrate
World Tourism Day (September 27), UNWTO announces that this
year's theme: Tourism – Linking Cultures.
"We recommend celebrating cultural tourism every day,"
said Planeta.com founder Ron
Mader. "In particular we're focusing attention on literacy
(traditional reading and writing and digital literacy -- the emerging
read
write culture)."
This year's official theme is a celebration of tourism's role
in linking together the world's cultures. With millions travelling
the world each year, never before have so many visitors been to
so many places, nor so many locals receiving guests. This interaction
among individuals and communities can lead to tolerance, respect
and mutual understanding, stepping stones for a more peaceful
world.
