At the end of November and the beginning
of December, friends in Oaxaca
are organizing a series of impromtu food tastings and talks focusing
on chocolate and mole -- rhymes with Olé! -- a rich, smooth
sauce and a chief component in many of Oaxaca's signature dishes.
Participating markets and restaurants included Bambú,
Comala, Grupo
Lula'a and Mercado
Pochimilco.
Holy Mole Week also took place online via social
media networks. The
agenda was updated on the Oaxaca wiki and we launched the Mole
Story via Storify
Events were free and open to all! Those not in Oaxaca were encouraged
to use social media to join this culinary adventure.
We ask restaurants to prepare special meals with mole on the menu
and challenge participants in using social media to document the
mole goodness. Bonus points for those using mole in vegetarian dishes.
The motto for this and other slow adeventures: eat something delicious!
Background
This is an unconference and our first attempt to hold a week focusing
on mole. It builds on previous successes including the the 2001-2011
Tourism Fairs, Chocolate Night 2011 and the recent Septehambre.
How to participate
If you are in Oaxaca, come join the delicious fun! Seek out the
various moles during your visit.
If you are not in Oaxaca, no worries! Seek out local Mexican restaurants
and ask if they have mole on the menu! Reward them with a visit
and by eating something delicious.
Via social media, join
our event on Facebook, add
a star to mole pictures on Flickr, check in via Foursquare and
Facebook and start tweeting now (there's a tweet button in the lefthand
column to help share the news).
Advanced: Chefs and restaurant owners are asked
to put a special mole item on the menu. Let us know and we'll add
this to the wiki.
You are also encouraged to post photos on Flickr, videos on YouTube
and claim your place on Facebook, Google, Gowalla and Foursquare.
