Minnesota's Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy
IATP was established in 1986 as a nonprofit organization. Although located close to the United States-Canada border,
its mission is to create environmentally and economically sustainable communities throughout the Americas.
IATP focuses on sound agricultural and trade policies. The institute assists public interest organizations in
effectively influencing both domestic and international policy making through the following activities:
Monitoring, Analysis and Research
IATP monitors key events and topics related to agriculture, environment, community economic development and trade.
This data is then analyzed to determine potential economic and ecological implications. Researchers offer policy
options in response to specific problems and opportunities.
Education and Outreach
IATP prepares educational materials for distribution to policy makers, opinion leaders and the public at large.
This includes a mail order literature service, video productions, public service announcement (PSA) campaigns,
conferences and computer networks.
Training and Technical Assistance
IATP provides training, consulting and technical assistance to groups interested in addressing economic and
ecological issues through seminars, staff and leadership training, teleconferences, videos, on-site consultations
and our system of computerized updates.
Coalition Building and International Networking
Concerned groups are brought together in coalitions to increase coordination of activities in a variety of
issue areas. IATP also works to build international networks by linking groups in different countries through
conferences, study tours, publications, action campaigns and global electronic bulletin boards. It sponsors a
variety of electronic mailing lists on trade and agriculture issues:
- TRADE-NEWS (includes weekly bulletins: NAFTA Monitor, Trade Week and GATT Alert!)
- TRADE-LIBRARY (a storehouse of trade related documents)
- TRADE-STRATEGY (a discussion of trade issues);
- SUSAG-NEWS (includes bi-weekly news bulletins Sustainable Agriculture Week and Food Safety Week);
- SUSAG-LIBRARY (a storehouse of sustainable agriculture related documents;
- ENV-BIOTECH (bi-weekly news bulletin Bio/Technology/Diversity Week)
- AGRI-FARMBILL (Farm Bill Review and Farm Aid News bulletins).
To subscribe to any of these lists, send a message to Majordomo@igc.apc.org
In the body of the message (not in the subject line) write: subscribe LISTNAME. For example, if you wanted to add yourself
to TRADE-NEWS, you'd send the following message to Majordomo@igc.apc.org:
