MEXICO CITY - Mexico innaugurated its first national trade exposition on ecotourism and adventure tourism, Expo Aventura, which ran from July 1-3, 1999.

The event took place at the World Trade Center and featured both a trade exposition and two days of presentations on ecotourism and adventure tourism planning and management.

Costs were purposefully kept low to make access available to a large number of people. Entrance to the trade exhibit was 20 pesos ($2) per day and 10 pesos ($1) for each conference presentation.

Expositors included state tourism offices from Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca and Veracruz, Aeromexico, Mexicana and Taca airlines, Espacio Profundo magazine, Mexview and Planeta.com websites. Individual operators included Baja Expeditions, Baja Quest and Hotel Desconocio and Explorean Hotel.

Of special note are the efforts undertaken by Mexico City's office of Turismo Alternativo that sponsored the first night's welcome presentation. For information, call 5212-0262 in Mexico City.
