Planeta.com is your practical guide to ecotourism around the world. Help create incentives for communication, opportunities for conversation and rewards for participation among travelers and locals who share a vision of eco-friendly, people-friendly and place-friendly travel.

Created in 1994, this website's forte is linking environmental conservation and tourism, particularly the development of ecotourism (more info: Exploring Ecotourism Resource Guide). The award-winning Planeta.com provides free access to more than 10,000 pages of articles and resource guides as well an active forum and wiki.

The site has been designed to create incentives for communication, opportunities for conversation and a reward for participation among government leaders working toward ecotourism and responsible travel. The site brings together those who share a vision of eco-friendly, people-friendly and place-friendly travel.

MAKING CONTACT

BUZZWORD BINGO

Planeta.com provides direct access to travel operators, language schools, artisans and conservation groups. For professionals including park managers, conservationists, tourism associations and government leaders we offer workshops and presentations.

Planeta.com spotlights what is local across the globe. We work toward decentralizing communication by encouraging engagement - active participation and reciprocity - among key players, including locals and travelers.

RON MADER

Ron Mader developed the site in 1994 as a reporter's notebook (a forerunner of today's blog and wiki), Planeta pioneered online reporting focusing on practical ecotourism around the globe, addressing sustainability and the holistic integration of development work.

Ron is a communication catalyst, focusing on environmental conservation, responsible travel and ecotourism, not to mention peacemaking. He is currently editing a seminal essay titled Toward Effective Communication in Responsible Travel and Ecotourism and developing an award for indigenous tourism websites. You can follow Ron on Twitter!

E-CONFERENCE ARCHIVE

Planeta.com has hosted more than twenty online conferences since 2000. This is an impressive archive and we would like to partner with universities in summarizing the dialogues and pursuing new avenues of collaboration. 2008-2009 E-conferences spotlight Food, Health and Building Communities and Tourism and Climate Change.

WIKI WIKI

Planeta.com takes a dynamic view of the Web and we appreciate helpful editorial suggestions.

Planeta.com readers are a mix of international travelers and locals. Both groups are keen to engage with one another but are often at a loss of how to do so. By virtue of our articles, forum, collaborative photo groups and now wiki, Planeta.com provides a venue for discussion and development of action plans.
