ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Debuting in 1994, Planeta.com provides tips for travelers and locals who share a vision of eco-friendly, people-friendly and place-friendly travel. Planeta.com takes a dynamic wiki view of the Web and appreciates helpful editorial suggestions and financial contributions. The fortee is linking environmental conservation and tourism, particularly the development of ecotourism highlighted in the popular Exploring Ecotourism Resource Guide. The award-winning site provides free access to more than 10,000 pages of articles and resource guides for travelers, researchers and policy-makers.

Ron Mader developed the site in 1994 as a reporter's notebook (a forerunner of today's blog and wiki), Planeta pioneered online reporting focusing on practical ecotourism around the globe, addressing sustainability and the holistic integration of development work. Ron Mader conducts seminars and provides consulting services and workshops for associations, businesses and educators.

Planeta.com has hosted twenty online conferences since 2000. The discussion with the greatest number of participants was the Sustainable Development of Ecotourism Web Conference, conducted online as a precursor to the World Ecotourism Summit. More than 900 peopl registered for the discussion. Since then our conferences have become more focused with increased responsibilities on participants to be engaged in the dialogue. In 2008 our e-conference spotlight shines on Food, Health and Building Communities and Tourism and Climate Change.

Planeta.com readers are a mix of international travellers and locals. Both groups are keen to engage with one another but are often at a loss of how to do so. By virtue of our articles, forum, collaborative photo groups and now wiki, Planeta.com provides a venue for discussion and development of action plans.
