E-commerce (Electronic Commerce) sells your products and services on the Web. It can be as simple as sending an email or as complex as setting up an online store.

Sales can be made directly (purchasing online) or indirectly (purchasing offline, thanks to information on the Web). Tracking indirect sales is very difficult. What we can do via this guide is improve the options for both direct and indirect sales.

ACCEPTING CREDIT CARDS

Merchantwarehouse reports that many businesses increase sales up 10 to 50% just by setting up a merchant account to do credit card processing. There is no application fee. Transaction rates are competitive and the monthly fees are low. Check out their tips on setting up an account.

Top tip -- Give yourself enough time:

"While it's true that setting up internet merchant accounts usually takes just a few days, it does sometimes take longer. It's a good idea to start thinking about setting up a merchant account a few weeks before you plan on using it. While you will probably be pleasantly surprised about how quickly you get set up, nothing could be more nerve wracking than waiting to get your payment gateway set up the day you plan to start taking orders. You will have plenty of other challenges in those last few days before you open for business."

PayPal also accepts credit cards. One option -- Website Payments Pro allows customers to pay by credit card stay on your website for the entire transaction.
