MAKING CONTACT -- Email messages sent to Planeta may be published. If you don't want that to happen, just let us know. Requests for anonymity will be honored. (Email Tips)

Reciprocity is as important online as it is in the natural world. Be generous!

This guide provides guidelines as well as the criteria used on Planeta. We also review our ratings and explain the importance of reporting dead links.

A WORD ABOUT LINKS

Why re-invent the wheel? It's easier than ever to decentralize communication.

Links provide an easy means to share information and improve relations among individuals and institutions.

Would you like to link to Planeta.com? Please do! Our only requirement is that you do not frame our site.

HOW TO SUGGEST A NEW LINK

If you think a particular website should link to your site, contact the webmaster. Make the task as easy as possible. Provide the title and the URL of the document to which you think a link should be placed.

If you already link to the other website, provide the URL where the link appears on your site.

CRITERIA FOR LINKS ON PLANETA.COM

Perhaps you have wondered about our use of the symbols g and b . Simple! g denotes a feature on our site and b is elsewhere on the Web.

Criteria is simple - we link to websites with something to say. Some links are serious, others satirical. Planeta.com establishes links to a variety of sources, including traveler essays, academic work, policy reports, news stories, blogs, flickr galleries and others. Reciprocal links are appreciated!

REQUEST -- For active participants in the Planeta Forum, we request that you add a link from your website.

RATINGS

To improve communication with colleagues, we are launching a ratings program for external websites.

OBJECTIVE -- Planeta.com prioritizes communication and consulting for individuals and institutions with at least three points.

2 Points: Websites that link back to Planeta.com

3 Points: Websites that link back to Planeta and which participate in the Planeta Forum

4 Points: Websites that link back to Planeta, which participate in the Planeta Forum and which participate on another prestigious website

5 Points: Websites that link back to Planeta, which participate in the Planeta Forum, which participate on another website and which conduct events, fairs or panels in the natural world with online documentation that encourages interaction before, during and after the event.

STANDARDS

Explain the criteria of links you add from your website.

HOW TO REPORT DEAD LINKS

If you find a dead link, tell the webmaster. If you spot a dead link on Planeta, report it!

Suggested protocol:

Provide the URL of the page in question.

Provide the URL of the dead link in question

If you know it, provide the correct URL
