Arizona borders New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, touches Colorado and has a 389-mile (626 kilometers) international border with the states of Sonora and Baja California in Mexico.

The name of the state appears to originate from an earlier Spanish name, Arizonac, derived from the O’odham name alĭ ṣonak, meaning “small spring” (Historians disagree on origins of Arizona’s name)
