Joshua Tree National Park – 2019’s Night Sky Festival – nightskyfestival.org – takes place Saturday, September 20 and celebrates the night sky.
This annual all-day event includes activities for all ages. In the morning, visit Sky’s the Limit Observatory for a guided tour around the Orrery, a scale model of the solar system that is large enough to walk around and through.
The afternoon presents a variety of astronomy lectures by knowledgeable presenters. Attendees can stop at the night sky “selfie” photo booth, and a variety of information tables including the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and other supporting organizations.A highlight of the events is the Night Star Party where spectacular views of our night sky are abundant.
Plan ahead; lodging can be found in Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, or other nearby towns.
This event is sponsored by non-profit organizations Joshua Tree National Park Council for the Arts and Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center, in partnership with Joshua Tree National Park, and supported by the City of Twentynine Palms.
Future festivals include Death Valley National Park’s Dark Sky Festival, February 21-23, 2020.
