Kogelberg Nature Reserve is a nature reserve of 3,000 ha comprising the Kogelberg Mountain Range, to the east of Cape Town, South Africa. With about 1,600 plant species, it contains a floral diversity per unit area that is greater than anywhere else in the world.
The 100,000 hectare UNESCO designated Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve is home to the most complex biodiversity on our planet with more than 1,880 different plant species … the next richest is the South American rainforest with just 420 species per 10,000 square kilometers.
The 1,000-square-kilometer (390 sq miles) Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve incorporates the nature reserve as part of its “core conservation area.”
