One of our new favorite places: Ogallala, Nebraska.

Why we like this place: Cool name, Urban Farmer. More Nebraska please.

Ogallala Government: Ogallala received its name from the Ogala Sioux Indian tribe. The Indians spelled the name Ogala and they pronounced it Oklada. The word means “scatter,” or “to scatter one’s own.”

In the days of the Nebraska Territory, the city was a stop on the Pony Express and later along the transcontinental railroad.

How to pronounce Ogallala

Urban Farmer
Ron – On my first trip to Ogallala the concierge at the Holiday Inn suggested this place. A reborn highway steakhouse, Urban Farmer is playful with ephemeral art (plantholder pants) and a tasty menu. One of the highlights of our roadtrip.

Urban Farmer: “There is no love more sincere than the love of food. At Urban Farmer we serve a unique mix of classic dishes with an urban twist during Lunch, Dinner + Saturday & Sunday Brunch. We are located just north of the I-80 Interchange in Ogallala, Ne. We aim to be that small town dining destination where our guests can enjoy an excellent meal with quality ingredients, daily prepared from scratch. Our atmosphere is great for customers of all ages!”
