Developing story: SOS from activists warning of development threatening the environmental integrity of Europe’s Lake Skadar.
Background
Lake Skadar is a freshwater lake on the borders of Albania and Montenegro. On the Montenegro side, the lake (Skadarsko Jezero) has been a protected national park since 1983, was added in 1996, to the World’s List of Wetlands of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention. In 2011 the lake was formally nominated for UNESCO heritage status.
