For a Structured Dialogue with Civil Society
Europa Nostra, the Voice of Cultural Heritage in Europe, together with the Host Country represented by the National Heritage Board of Poland, will host a discussion, in conjunction with the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee, to help enhance the quality and effectiveness of how civil society is involved in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention. Organisers hope that the initiative will help to establish regular dialogue, thus allowing the World Heritage Committee to fully benefit from the expertise and passion of communities and citizens who are active – as professionals or volunteers – in the field of cultural and natural heritage.
This important side event intends to generate a dialogue – which may become a regular initiative – between representatives of civil society organisations and the World Heritage Committee.
The exchanges of knowledge, experience and passion of communities and citizens who are committed to the safeguard and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage will benefit a better implementation of the World Heritage Convention. The focus will be on how to better structure this dialogue through International and Regional Non-governmental Organisations which federate and represent the concerns of civil society. Proposals formulated at the meeting will be presented on July 10 at the plenary session of the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee.
